New DRC Project Coordinator Appointed
Introducing Patrice Yamba T. Kantu

The Institute for Environmental Security is pleased to welcome Dr Patrice Yamba Tshisungu Kantu as new Project Coordinator for the Democratic Republic of Congo. This position relates to one of the Institute?s key programme on Environmental Security for Poverty Alleviation (ESPA) which is to run until 2010.
His education includes a master in Quaternary Geology and a Doctorate in Earth Science from the Free University of Brussels (VUB) after having acquired a Degree in Geography from the Ex National University of Zaire/Higher Education Institute of Kananga and Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo.
He has been member of several professional bodies such as the International Technical Committee on Environmental Measurements, the non profit association ?Cercle de R?flexions pour la Reconstruction de la R?publique D?mocratique du Congo? and, since 2007, he is team leader of the Congo Forest Expert Group for Wageningen International Experts (WIx).
His 15 years experience in Remote Sensing & GIS Applications and in management and coordination of multidisciplinary projects combined with a thourough knowledge of the geographic and cultural specificities of the DRC made him the perfect candidate to take over this position.
Dr Yamba will continue the work begun by Paulien Peet on the Institute?s next EnviroSecurity Assessment case study focusing on the DRC ? Congo Basin.
