UNITAR Launches Capacity Building Programme for Parliamentarians on Sustainable Development
Key issues include Climate Change and Energy, Trade and Water

UNITAR is launching a global capacity building programme for parliamentarians in the field of sustainable development, in cooperation with the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU). The Inaugural Conference of the Global Capacity Building Initiative was held in Paris, 22-23 April 2005.
Tom Spencer, former MEP, Executive Director of ECPA and Senior Advisor to the Institute for Environmental Security, chaired and made a presentation in the session on ?Parliamentary Perspectives and Insight in advancing the Sustainability Agenda? which included a discussion on how can existing international agreements and development targets ? including the Millennium Development Goals and outcomes of the World Summit on Sustainable Development ? be better implemented into national law.
