Reconceptualising Security in an Era of Globalisation

IES Hosts Gathering of AFES-PRESS

8 Sept 2004

IES hosted a reception on 8 September 2004 at the opening of the Third AFES-PRESS GMOSS workshop in The Hague on "Reconceptualising Security in an Era of Globalisation" in the framework of the Fifth Pan-European Conference on International Relations: "Constructing World Orders" from 9 to 11 September.

The workshop was part of a wider effort to reconceptualise security by members of the AFES-PRESS board and contributes to an EU Network of Excellence on Security - Global Monitoring for Stability and Security (GMOSS) - in the framework of the joint EU/ESA initiative on Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES).

Dr. Hans Günter Brauch
AFESS-PRESS Chairman, Dr Hans GŁnter Brauch

In this context AFES-PRESS is in charge of a work package on Security Concepts and Threats that will be conducted in close cooperation with FOI in Stockholm. The AFES-PRESS contribution to the first stage of this work package is a major dialogue and publication project on: Reconceptualising Security in the 21st Century - between Globalisation and Global Environmental Change. The two volume publication contributes to the fourth phase of environmental security studies and to a new research programme on: Human and Environmental Security and Peace (HESP).
