Training of Judges on International Environmental Law
The Hague Conference noted the need to:
Enhance the training of the judiciary of developed and developing countries. Legal and judicial capacity building in developing countries requires innovative approaches and partnerships, given the limited financial and human resources available. The UNEP Global Judges Programme and UNDP's Partnership Project with the American Bar Association serve as two important models. In this area IES can assist by working with UNEP, the IUCN Law Centre and others to compliment current projects focused on training of judges regarding national environmental law by helping to stimulate and develop courses for the training of developing country judiciary regarding international environmental law. This work could also be carried out in cooperation with the T.M. Asser Institute in The Hague.
