IES Senior Advisors Tom Spencer and Gottfried Liebbrandt with Bruno Bruins, vice-Mayor of the City of The Hague at symposium on 24 June 2005
The Hague Espace for Environmental Global Governance
Developing a Platform for International Environmental Law and Consultations
During The Hague Conference on Environment, Security and Sustainable Development (ESSD), held 9-12 May 2004, one of the recommendations in the Chairman's conclusions was:
"Create a 'campus' in The Hague for international environmental negotiations, including the Conferences to the Parties to Multilateral Environment Agreements so as to improve communication between governments and other actors, allow for issue linkage, bargaining and better policy coordination."
The IES is exploring the possibilities for realisation of this recommendation. As a first step, the IES co-organised with The City of The Hague an informal meeting on "The Hague, Venue for International Environmental Consultations" at the City Hall on 24 June 2005.
