Promoting the Role of the Earth Charter in International Law
The Earth Charter is one of the most powerful ethical statements in relation to mankind and nature ever expressed. In November 2005, the 5-year anniversary of the adoption of the Charter in the Peace Palace in 2000 will be celebrated in Amsterdam with active participation of HM Queen Beatrix.
The Institute, following also the recommendations on the role of the charter coming out of its conference on Environment, Security and Sustainable Development in May 2004, has been asked to contribute to the promotion of the Charter in the development and implementation of international (environmental) law.
IES will organise an event during the celebration in November 2005, write a chapter in the book which will be published on the occasion of the celebration, and will be engaged in the educational follow-up.
