Modules
The ES Action Guide is made up of four inter-related modules:
- Organisations : Initially the Action Guide includes selected government agencies and international / intergovernmental organisations and a limited number of non governmental organisation. As the Action Guide is expanded, more NGOs and other types of organisations will be included. Organisations can be classified according to one or more categories, functions, EnviroSecurity themes, and subjects.
- Initiatives : This module includes information on specific activities carried out by organisations such as research projects, policy initiatives, programmes and projects. The featured initiatives are categorised according to functions, themes, subjects and geographical scope areas.
- Publications : A large number of books and other documents and materials on environment, security, sustainable development and related subjects are included in the Action Guide. Several of them have been selected by Adelphi Research and IES to also appear in the separate Essential Reading List (ERL) available on this website. Information on publications includes references to the ES themes, subjects and geographical scope areas covered.
- Web-Resources : While records in all four modules include useful internet links, this module includes information on especially useful websites and portals relevant to action on environment and security. The records are classified by themes and subjects.
Therefore, an overview of how records in the four modules are classified:
| Organisations | Initiatives | Publications | Web-Resources | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Categories | * | |||
| Functions | * | * | ||
| Themes | * | * | * | * |
| Subjects | * | * | * | * |
| Scope Areas | * | * |
Module Linking
In addition to the categorisation described above, the four modules are inter-linked so that the relationships between records in different modules can be represented.
This means that, for example, a record of an organisation may show links to its initiatives, publications and web-resources or a record of an activity will include links to the organisation(s) behind it or to associated publications.
This links will be shown under the main information for each Action Guide record only if there are links for that record.
