Serge Bronkhorst

Serge Bronkhorst is the legal advisor of the IES Pathfinder Programme.

Serge Bronkhorst has a Master Degree in International Public Law of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is founder and director of Bronkhorst International Law Services, which was established in 2002. Before that, he worked as legal coordinator at the Netherlands Committee for IUCN.

From 2002 to 2007, Mr. Bronkhorst has been teaching many courses on public international law and human rights at the University of Amsterdam and at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Commissioned by IES, Mr. Bronkhorst wrote the legal analysis for the IES Prototype EnviroSecurity Assessment on the Great Lakes region of Africa and commissioned and oversaw several legal studies on the legal aspects of environmental security on the Indonesian Island of Kalimantan, on criminal jurisdiction in the Netherlands over trade in natural resources originating from conflict zones, and on the EU FLEGT Action Plan.

In 2007/2008 he was commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of VROM (Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment) to advise the Ministry on issues related to trade and environment and to negotiate a new legal instrument on liability and redress in the context of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.
