Marc Baltes

Marc Baltes became a Senior Advisor on the IES Advisory Council and IES Vienna Representative in June 2011.

From 2000 to 2011, he was Deputy Co-ordinator for Economic and Environmental Activities at OSCE headquarters in Vienna. In 2003 he was co-instigator of the Environment and Security Initiative (ENVSEC) and until 2011 member of its Management Board.

In the 1990s, Marc was posted by the Luxembourg Ministry for Foreign Affairs to the United Nations in New York, where he covered mainly Security Council issues, and to the WEU and NATO in Brussels.

Previously he worked for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), with postings at Geneva headquarters as well as in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he was Co-ordinator of the UN TrainFortrade Project for Asia and Pacific.

Marc holds a Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.
