Jeanna Hyde Hecker
Jeanna Hyde Hecker is the Science and Methodology Coordinator as well as the Coordinator for the Mataven, Colombia case study of the IES Programme on Environmental Security for Poverty Alleviation (ESPA). In addition, she is Assistant Programme Manager of the ESPA Programme.
From 1993 to 1995, Jeanna studied Biology & General Studies at St. John's College Sixth Form in Belize. From 1996 to 1998, she spent two years in the USA where she obtained a BSc in Natural Resources with a concentration in Land Use Planning from the University of Maine, Orono.
From 1998 to 2001, Jeanna was Land Information Officer at the Land Information Centre (LIC), Ministry of Natural Resources, the Environment & Industry in Belize. In 2003, she was appointed Scientific Assistant in the Natural Resources Department at the International Institute for Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) in the Netherlands where she has completed a MSc in Natural Resources Management with a specialisation in Rural Land Ecology.
While working at the IES, Jeanna co-authored numerous publications including Environmental Security Assessments pilot studies in Virunga-Bwindi, Great Lakes, Africa, the Mataven area in Colombia, and the Peat Swamps of Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. In addition, she co-authored the Joint Report of the Working Groups on Greening Foreign and Security Policy within the programme on Greening European Security.Back to people page
