Gottfried Leibbrandt

Gottfried Leibbrandt is Secretary / Treasurer of the Management Board

Dr Leibbrandt has led a notable career in education from teaching economics and serving as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of Kisangani, Congo (1969-1972) to serving as Guest Scholar at Brookings (1961-1962) and at Harvard University 1962-1963). He is also former Deputy Permanent Secretary (1972-1973) and Director General for Higher Education and Research (1973-1981) in The Netherlands Ministry of Education and Science and Former (Founding) President of the Open University of The Netherlands (1981-1988).

He is currently a Consultant on Higher Education with several consultancies in Asia, Africa, South America, Russia and Europe and is the Chairman of the EuroCampus Institute Board at The Hague. He is fluent in Dutch, English, French and German.

Prof. Leibbrandt has been involved in the IES since its founding and served on the IES Advisory Council since 2004. In 2008 he was part of the IES team advising the University for Peace on the possible establishment of a UPEACE institute in The Hague. He replaces Ronald A. Kingham who remains IES Director and as ex-officio member of the board.
